A Fable about Craft

There was a shrewd young fellow of confident mien and swagger whose driving ambition was to acquire extreme wealth. His practice was developed by twisting every circumstance to personal benefit - and he became nimble at it.

One most successful enterprise was motivational speeches in which he stated irrelevancies with a passion that sweat-soaked dozens of his handkerchiefs each session.

For fifty-five minutes he went on about the fullness of a half-empty glass, the texture of warm colors, the moods of a zephyr, and how periwinkles connect Europe and Africa and Asia - all of this somehow relevant to controlling one's given vicissitudes, provided they followed his particular guidance.

(How-To Textbooks, CD's, audiotapes, and videos were available in the lobby).

His persuasive talents earned quick millions.

So pleased with himself, he procured a mansion and a townhouse, and several expensive cars, and a thoroughbred or two with their appurtenances.

Soon afterwards, consequence of an extravagant lifestyle, our hero contracted a wasting incurable.

He is but thirty-two years old.

Moral: Some who the Gods wish to spite receive longer lives.
