A Fable about an Unexpected Evolution

It came to pass that after a spell of global warming melted snow and ice reserves, swollen, aggressive blue seas overran the verdant, passive fields so much of the world beneath highest reaches was under water.

Then "coming-to-pass" went further when, because of a solar storm of colored neutrinos, fishes of the sea that, since before ever, had been a protein staple for humans, evolved in a matter of three to four weeks.

Without any obvious cranial enlargement, they became smarter. They learned to share data among other-species schools and retained understandings from one generation to the other. Eyes expressionless as usual, they tinkered with their reproductive system and improved its efficiency. They created a fluid language for marine vertebrates, and figured out how to elude manmade nets and seines and hooks and traps. Then after all that, in a rapture of intellectual vigor, they developed a primitive democracy and elected a First-Fish leader to challenge mankind for domination of the planet.

By three breeding seasons later, enormous scaly masses had carried this campaign to innumerable beaches that abounded the diminished Earth-land before they realized the need for suitable terrestrial transport. Frustrated by a lack of preparation for such, they named the occasion "Bad-Gather."

In mankind's history books the event is referred to as the "Great Fish Cookout."

Moral: Some Ambitions Need Legs.
