A Fable about Tenacity

Through implacable Time and hard Experience Pugh, the older of the Lee brothers, had learned that Life was more pleasant for all concerned if he kept his own company, stayed by himself, and generally be a lonely recluse.

Brother Shaw T Lee - who prefers 'Shaw' - nursed in his soul more positive ambitions.

Then he saw a movie in which a stumbling mumbler was transformed into a nimble yet muscular valiant by the practice of running inclines; stadium steps, or medium-sized hills, or apartment stair-wells, and as far as Shaw could see, always heading up.

At all hours of night and day this was what the hero did.

By his tenth viewing of the movie, Shaw had moved from yearning to be like that magnificent man and on to deciding to be himself the fellow.

So he began a running routine: every day, weather permitting, he set off for a jog over somewhere inclined. Anywhere. Once it was reasonable. Like the lowest grade up-slopes in the Park. Like every three-step stoop on the block one street uptown from his. Like side roads leading South to North.

Whatever else, Shaw was diligent. He really stuck with it. Now closing on a decade later, he persists, albeit with less vigor, and rigor.

Still though, as an athlete, Shaw T Lee has achieved ranking into the higher FA weight class.

Moral: Sometimes any reach won is well done.
