A Fable about Gods

There was suburban fellow who came to see his garden as evidence of his Divinity; which, to some extent, indeed he was - as in 'God to his garden's plants and other occupants'.

As evidence: with unseemly devotion, he nurtured earthworms in special smelly bins. On the other hand, (and not mentioning dandelions), toad rush, and cleavers, and chickweed, and blinks were eliminated wholesale. In the mean time, Morning Glory was smilingly tolerated while, eugenic style, runty seedlings of every nature were systematically destroyed. Similarly, sunflowers (Helianthus sp.) were chosen over periwinkles (Vinca sp.). Further, certain leguminous vines were trained up the better sunlit trellises. Even water, mulch, and basic fertilizer were provided solely on this fellow's celestial whim and/or purpose.

In truth, with matters relating to his realm, our Gardener was properly ruthless and aloof as any other Deity - his doctrine being "my will or the compost bin."

Then came a most unusual cold spell which, over two nights, froze all of his verdure.

Moral: Weather Gods do unto Garden Gods just as First World Gods would do them.
