A Fable about Pot-covers

It wasn't as if she was thinking of that fellow from the hillside community down the valley who came up with the wheel. Not at all. Contemplating the reluctant pot barely boiling the ground provisions stew she was trying to cook for her hungry brood - the toddler screaming back of the cave, the crawler on her way to investigate, and this kicker in her belly doing a bop-bop-bop in rhythm with the weakly simmering pot - she felt as if the pot was either mocking her or supporting the nuisance inside her.

All at once annoyed, she looked around unspecifically, her eyes falling on a slab of wood there to feed the cave's night fire. Only now she saw it as flat on one side and broad enough to cover the listless, disheartening pot.

Which is exactly what she did, and squatted there regarding the suppressed utensil with a superior, triumphant sneer. She also gave in to a few snaky gloating neck moves.

Until she developed a quick worry that the flavor of the wood would seep into the food and spoil it, waste her time. So she anxiously raised one end of the slab and peeked in and to her surprise and delight saw that the provisions had burst, cooked nice and ready for sharing.

A very busy woman, normally overwhelmed by chores and responsibilities, she didn't hesitate to make shushing the pot a practice.

Moral: Impatience is another Mother of invention.
